Newcastle Under Lyme residents have just days left to prepare for the borough council elections taking place on Thursday, 7 May. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote or obtain a free Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on Tuesday, 28 April. Anyone planning to vote in person must bring valid photo ID to their polling station.
All 44 borough council seats across 21 wards in Newcastle Under Lyme are up for grabs in the May election. The Conservatives currently hold 26 seats, Labour holds 17 seats, and Reform UK holds one seat. The council is responsible for key services including waste collection, green spaces, planning decisions, car parks, and food hygiene standards across the borough.
Gordon Mole, Returning Officer, emphasised the importance of participation in the democratic process. "Voting is a fundamental part of our democracy – it enables residents to have a say in who makes the decisions that affect their communities," Mole said. Residents without accepted photo ID should apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate now at the Newcastle Under Lyme council office rather than waiting until the last minute.
The May elections represent a significant opportunity for Newcastle Under Lyme residents to shape the future direction of local services and decision-making. With the deadline fast approaching, eligible voters are urged to check their registration status and arrange their voting method immediately to avoid missing out.
