Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is hosting a community flag-raising ceremony in Queens Gardens on Saturday 25 July at midday. The Union Flag and the Cross of St George will be raised as the centrepiece of a civic celebration of community pride.
The event runs from 11.30am until 12.30pm. The Stafford Brigades Youth Band will perform traditional music, including the national anthem "God Save the King". The Mayor of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cllr. Christopher Bailey, will attend alongside representatives from the Tri Service and Veterans Support Centre.
Residents will be able to purchase food and refreshments from businesses in the Ironmarket before and after the ceremony.
Council message
Cllr. Graham Shaw, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, said: "The Union Flag and the Cross of St George should unite us. They belong to all of us, regardless of our background, and represent the shared history, values and freedoms that bind our communities together. This event is about celebrating everything we have in common."
Residents of all ages are invited to attend the ceremony in Queens Gardens on 25 July.
