Reform UK has won control of Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council in a landslide election result. The party secured 27 of the 44 available seats in the May 7 election, well above the 23-seat majority needed to govern. The Conservatives retained 15 seats, while Labour won just two seats on Newcastle Under Lyme's council.
This result marks a dramatic shift in local politics. In the previous all-out election in 2022, the Conservatives held 26 seats while Reform UK had only one. The 2024 election also saw increased voter engagement, with turnout rising to 47.8 per cent compared to 43 per cent four years earlier across Newcastle Under Lyme.
Martin Rogerson, Reform UK's local branch chairman, said the party would "get to work straightaway delivering local services" following the election result.
Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council handles essential services affecting thousands of residents daily. These include town centre regeneration, planning decisions, waste collection, maintenance of green spaces, car park management, and food hygiene inspections across the authority.
