A £700,000 highways improvement scheme in Kidsgrove is set to begin on Monday 13 July, delivered by Staffordshire County Council and Newcastle Borough Council as part of the Government's Town Deal programme. The project is expected to take around nine weeks to complete.
The work will create two new one-way road systems in the town centre to improve traffic flow and pedestrian facilities.
Station Road and Meadows Road improvements
A new one-way traffic system will be introduced between the A50 Liverpool Road and The Avenue via Meadows Road. The scheme includes junction improvements and new crossing facilities with tactile paving.
Market Street changes
A second one-way system will be introduced between the Home Bargains service yard entrance and Heathcote Street. Additional improvements will include a raised crossing, new parking and loading arrangements, upgraded signs and streetlights.
Other work
Both phases will include repairs and upgrades to drainage and kerbs.
Temporary traffic lights, lane closures and signed diversions will be in place where required. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained wherever possible. A two-week overnight closure on Station Road and Meadows Road is planned from Monday 24 August for resurfacing.
Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways at Staffordshire County Council, said the improvements are part of the council's commitment to supporting regeneration of Kidsgrove and making it easier and safer for people to travel around the town.
Jonathan Gullis, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Planning and Town Centres, said the scheme will help traffic flow in the town centre and make Kidsgrove a better place to shop and visit.
