Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council has unveiled a ceramic tile display in Queens Gardens honouring the late Queen Elizabeth II in what would have been her 100th birthday year.
The bespoke artwork was created by ceramic artist Ian Minshall from Black Star Ceramics and inspired by winning paintings from the council's annual Britain in Bloom painting competition.
Children's artwork featured in display
Fourteen-year-old Ethan Powell from Coppice Academy painted a corgi wearing a crown. Seven-year-old Ava Winter from Baldwins Gate Primary School created an image of the late Queen with her favourite flower, lily of the valley. These winning designs were transformed into the ceramic tiles now on display.
The new tile display complements the nearby Queen Elizabeth II sculpture in one of the borough's most visited public spaces.
Painting competition details
The painting competition attracted 1,084 entries from 18 schools across Newcastle-under-Lyme. Sixty winners received certificates and prizes for their work.
An exhibition of all the winning artwork is currently on display at Keele in Town.
