Crime in Newcastle Under Lyme has plummeted by 20.4 per cent over the past two years, according to latest figures. The significant drop puts the borough ahead of both regional and national crime trends, offering residents genuine reason for optimism about safety in their community.
Despite the encouraging statistics, Newcastle Under Lyme's council and police partnership recognises that many residents still don't feel safer on the streets. Concerns about anti-social behaviour, town centre disorder and nighttime incidents continue to affect public confidence. Councillor Andrew Fisher, Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, highlighted a critical issue: many crimes go unreported, making it harder to address underlying problems. "If it's not reported, we can't see the full picture and we can't act on it," he explained.
To close this gap, Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council and Staffordshire Police are intensifying enforcement efforts across the borough. The partnership has deployed dedicated patrols to crime hotspots, launched safer nights operations complete with street medics and CCTV coverage, and begun using injunctions against persistent offenders.
The Safer Newcastle initiative has introduced the WalkSafe app, which helps residents identify safe routes through the town. This tool is part of a broader push to encourage the public to report incidents and engage with local safety efforts.
