Newcastle Under Lyme is hosting a major borough-wide clean-up on Saturday, 4 July. All 44 councillors have been asked to organise litter-picking events in their wards, with volunteers targeting rubbish across up to 21 different areas in one coordinated effort. The council is providing all equipment and arranging disposal of collected waste.
Three confirmed sessions are already scheduled across Newcastle Under Lyme. Kidsgrove will run from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Kidsgrove Oatcakes on King Street. Silverdale's session starts at 10am and runs until 4pm from The Parade. Wolstanton will take place from 1pm to 3pm outside Treacle Coffee Shop in Morris Square.
Council Leader Jonathan Gullis said litter "blights communities" but stressed that when residents and councillors work together, "we can make a visible difference very quickly." The council has committed to supporting the clean-up by providing all necessary equipment and handling the disposal of collected waste.
Residents across Newcastle Under Lyme wanting to volunteer can visit the council website or contact their ward councillor for details of local meeting points. Organisers emphasise that even 20 minutes of participation will make a difference to the community.
