Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is set to invest more than £628,000 in improvements to Chesterton Park and the open space at Waterhays. The funding comes from Section 106 contributions secured from residential developments in the area.
The investment forms part of the Council's broader effort to use developer contributions and other available funding to improve parks, play areas, recreational facilities and green spaces across the Borough.
What the investment will deliver
The schemes will provide better opportunities for play, sport and recreation. At Waterhays, improvements to the footpath network will make the open space more accessible and easier to use throughout the year.
Chesterton Park currently has a pavilion, bowling green, play equipment, a multi-use games area and car park. Draft plans for both sites have been prepared following initial engagement with local communities.
Related investment across the Borough
This investment follows other improvements in the Borough's parks and green spaces. Work is progressing on a new playground and pump track at Bradwell Dingle, with a second pump track planned at Lyme Valley Parkway.
What happens next
Draft masterplans for Chesterton Park and Waterhays are subject to Cabinet approval. Following approval, they will be shared more widely for residents to have their say. Initial designs for both sites will be finalised following public consultation.
